Michael Vick is right now in the thick of a Dog Fighting case that could cost him dearly. Now, I want to preface what I say here by saying I do not support dog fighting. That being said, I believe that the penalty for dogfighting is much too high. The penalty is 5 years in prison and is a felony under Virginia Law (The State Vick is from). It is a felony in 48 of 50 states in the union.
I was able to find the list of misdemeanors in DC, and these are on the list
- Credit Card Fraud
- DUI
- Indecent Exposure
- Rioting
- Sexual Abuse
- Shoplifting
- Simple Assault
How are these not as bad as Dog Fighting? I just think that we are more worried about protecting Dogs than protecting people. Someone driving while drunk could kill someone, I consider that alot worse that a practice that hurts a few dogs. The Animal Rights people have push their agenda so far that a dog is protected better than a human. Instead of the cops focusing on a high profile dog fighting case, my not find a few more guys driving while drunk? It may actually save a few lives.
