CPAC Day #2 was less interesting than the first, but still a good day. The clear highlight was Newt Gingrich, who gave a great speech to a packed house.
I arrived at the ballroom at 8:20 AM, and I could the closing seconds of John Cornyn’s speech (TX). Next up was Jim DeMint (SC), who is probably the most conservative Senator, as he was the only person to get a perfect rating from the ACU last year. His, like a theme of many in this stretch was decent, but nothing memorable.
After DeMint’s speech came John Boehner, who is the leader of the Republicans in the House. Boehner’s speech was much like DeMint, decent, but nothing memorable. Another case of needing to get back to our principles. After Boehner was Mitch McConnell, who leads up the Republicans in the Senate. Mitch kept talking about how great CPAC was, at not much else. His speech was not noteworthy.
The schedule was behind, so the panel asking the questions on “Are we all socialist now?” was short. The short answer, no, but we can’t let the Democrats take us that way.
After the panel was Tom Coburn, who is a man I love. Coburn only spoke for a couple of minutes, and then he took questions. Coburn was typical Coburn, but his time was too short.
After Coburn was Wayne LaPierre, the head of the NRA. LaPierre came out fighting. You would have never known that we won the Heller case after hearing LaPierre speak. Basically, LaPierre was saying that people want to take away our guns, and we can’t allow it. Also, Barack fooled the voters into thinking his was pro 2nd amendment, yet he is not. It is clear his record is anti second amendment. Props to LaPierre for having Props and Video clips, it was refreshing. After LaPierre was some more quick talk on how liberals hate guns.
Next was Newt Gingrich, and the placed was packed to the brim. Since I stayed in the ballroom all morning, I had a front row seat, I should have some good Gingrich pics. Gingrich speech really was a rally cry. First, he explained how far to the left Obama is trying to take us. He did it with typical Gingrich style. He also talked about how to get back, and how to sell our ideas. It was a great speech, clearly the best of the day.
After Gingrich was Rep. Patrick McHenry. He talked about the census, and of course I loved it. I find this whole census issue amazing, I will write more on it later. I am going to call McHenry next week and see what I can do to help.
I then went out for lunch, so I missed a number of panels. After lunch I went to the Job Fair, which was a zoo, but hey, I got a free book. Too bad I don’t have a job. After that I went to a panel talking about how bad Net Neutrality is. I made a point to go to this as all my RIT have basically indoctrinated me on how good net neutrality is. I now have some research to do, it was interesting to me for sure.
After that I planned on going to hear Ron Paul, but the ballroom filled up to capacity and I was shut out. Ditto that for Mitt Romney, who was right after Ron Paul. While in line I was talking smack about Paul, and some girl who was a Ron Paul nuthead we off on me saying that Ron Paul is the only honest man in Congress. This Ron Paul revolution is very cult-like. The Paul nutheads though will be upset because I should have some great pictures of Paul because I walked next to him as he came in, it was just a cool chance thing.
So that was day 2 at CPAC. There was one comment that upset me. Early in the day, one of the speakers said that Daily Newspapers will be gone soon. There was a good applause line for that. I just don’t understand it, I find it very disappointing that Newspapers are going away. It’s a sad day indeed. I hope the NYT remains online. BTW, they hate Chris Matthews too (go figure). Wayne LaPierre used a Hardball clip in his speech and the crowd booed at the mention of the shows name. Jeepers folks
One day left. Folks, I wont get shutout for the Maha Rushie. |
