John McCain is not a technology freak. He understands that the internet is useful and here to stay and he is slowly learning about it. He (gasp!) does not even own a blackberry. In a world that is more and more online daily, does it matter that our commander in chief is in the bottom 50% in terms of understanding computers?
The liberal bloggers seem to think that it is a big deal. As a liberal friend told me “How can we have someone who don’t even know how to use a computer lead us into the 21st century.” Us hip young people put too much stock into computers. What do I mean? Well being on the internet is not the most important thing in the world. In fact, there are many, many things that matter much more than if you know how to write a text message or watch the newest Obama girl clip.
What matters is how you are going to deal with foreign threats. The President, over everything else, what matters is that he gets the big picture. It does not matter if John McCain would not know how to find the page where I endorsed him on my blog. What does matter is that he understands that blogs do matter now in terms of the media and he needs to have people who could direct him to NicShayko.com if needed.
We techies make ourselves more important than we are. Just because John McCain still thinks that a blackberry is a fruit first and not a mobile device, that does not make him a bad candidate. It just makes him one who is putting his attention somewhere that matters more.
