Why must conservatives not be concerned about the poor?
Why must they not be concerned about the downtrodden?
Well, they can be concerned. Mike Huckabee has but his finger on what the modern Evangelical Republican can be. As such, people are flocking to him. He is a man who can issue a clemency, yet be strong enough to allow the death penalty.
He understands that cutting taxes stimulates the economy, yet he also understands that the roads need to be paid for.
He understands that faith ought to personal, and it ought to be the guidepost for your life.
He is a man that knows illegal immigration is a problem, yet he also understands that we ought to treat illegals as people, not as scapegoats.
He is a man that has principles that he will not compromise on, yet he knows how to bring this nation up, not down by moving left or right.
This is what Mike Huckabee said on the today show:
Huckabee: There's a sense in which all these years the evangelicals
have been treated very kindly by the Republican Party. They wanted us
to be a part of it. And then one day one of us actually runs, and they
say, Oh, my gosh. Now they're serious. They don't want to just show up
and vote. They actually would want to be a part of the discussion, and
really talk about issues that include hunger and poverty and things
that ought to be really a concern to every American, Democrat or
Republican, liberal or conservative.
Amen!
